The Government of Kerala on March 09, 2026, published the Abkari (Amendment) Act, 2026, after the Bill passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly received the assent of the Governor on March 7, 2026.
The amendment has been enacted to further modify provisions of the Abkari Act, 1077, which governs the regulation of manufacture, possession, sale, and transport of liquor and intoxicating substances in the State. The Act has been brought into force with immediate effect upon publication.
Specifically, Section 29 of the principal Act has been amended by inserting the words “and vinegar” after the word “bread” in clause (a) of sub-section (2). This change expands the scope of the provision relating to substances that may be manufactured or used under the specified regulatory framework.
