The Labour & Employment Department, Chandigarh Administration on March 18, 2026, issued the amendment to the older notification no. 12/2/149-HII(2)-2025/12994, dated August 14, 2025, under the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958.
The following has been amended:
• Condition No. 6 shall be substituted with “6. No employee shall be required to work for more than 10 hours in a day or 48 hours in a week.”
• Condition No. 13 shall be substituted with “13. The spread over of an employee shall not exceed 12 hours in a day, inclusive of an interval for rest.”
• Condition No. 15(i) shall be substituted with “(i) The total number of overtime hours worked by an employee does not exceed one hundred forty-four within a period of [any one quarter]; and”.
