The Government of Puducherry on March 15, 2026, issued the notification regarding the Puducherry Notification Allowing 24×7 Operation of Shops & Establishments with Employee Safety Conditions
The following has been stated namely: -
• The Government of Puducherry has allowed all shops and establishments to operate 24×7 throughout the year, exempting them from certain provisions of the Shops and Establishments Act, 1964.
• Employers must ensure weekly holidays on a rotational basis and display employee leave details prominently at the workplace.
• Wages (including overtime) must be credited to employees’ bank accounts, and unauthorized overtime work may attract penalties.
• Strict conditions are prescribed for women working night shifts (8 PM–6 AM), including consent, safety measures, lighting, CCTV, and access to facilities.
• Employers must comply with labour and safety laws, including provisions related to maternity benefits, workplace safety, and prevention of sexual harassment.
