The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on March 24, 2026 released a Draft Checklist for Registration of Vessels under the framework of the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025. The draft aims to bring uniformity, transparency, and ease of compliance in the vessel registration process. Along with the checklist, relevant forms and a Citizens’ Charter specifying timelines for various services have also been made available on the official website for public consultation. Stakeholders including ship owners, managers, charterers, and maritime professionals have been invited to review the draft and submit their comments or suggestions via email on or before March 30, 2026.
