The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on April 09, 2026, notified regarding the Students’ and Teachers’ Resource books for the course on Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (CT&AI) for classes 3rd to 8th.
The following has been stated:
• It has introduced resource books for Students and Teachers on Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (CT&AI) for classes 3 to 8 in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) and NCFSE 2023. The aim is to develop AI-literate students by 2030 by integrating computational thinking, AI, ethics, and technology-based learning tools like AR/VR into school education. The curriculum emphasizes problem-solving, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, and ethical use of AI, promoting analytical and critical thinking among students.
• The circular also clarifies that these resource books are not textbooks but supplementary materials, designed to be used alongside NCERT Mathematics books and integrated into regular classroom teaching. Teachers are encouraged to adopt a facilitative approach—focusing on reasoning, discussion, and independent thinking rather than direct answers—while students engage in activity-based and thinking-oriented questions.
• Further, CBSE has discontinued existing AI courses for Class IX from session 2026–27, while Class X will continue with the current scheme for that session. NCERT will introduce CT&AI modules for classes 9–12 as part of internal assessment.
