Industry Specific ComplianceThe Administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, on April 17, 2026, issued a notification regarding a proposed Advisory for the mandatory installation of On-Grid/Hybrid Rooftop Solar (RTS) Systems for Specified Consumer Categories.

The following has been stated: -

•The Lakshadweep Electricity Department has proposed an advisory mandating the installation of rooftop solar systems for certain commercial and non-domestic consumers to support grid stability and renewable energy adoption. 

•Consumers with a roof area of at least 80 sqm, connected load of 10 kW or more, and average monthly consumption of 500 units or above will be required to install a minimum 3 kW on-grid or hybrid rooftop solar system, subject to technical feasibility. 

•The installation and grid connectivity must comply with applicable JERC regulations and technical standards, and where rooftop installation is not feasible, alternative locations may be permitted under appropriate agreements. 

•The Department has invited public comments and suggestions on the proposal by April 24, 2026, and will conduct a public hearing on April 25, 2026, before finalizing the advisory.
