The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on April 29, 2026, notified regarding the Addendum to UPI Global Acceptance Limits and Country Code Enablement.
The following has been stated:
• It has revised guidelines for UPI Global Acceptance (earlier issued under circular dated October 31, 2023) to expand its international reach. The update increases the per-transaction and daily limit to ₹2 lakh for Europe (P2M transactions), while limits for other regions remain unchanged, with flexibility for member banks to set their own caps within overall limits.
• Additionally, the list of supported countries has been expanded to include Bahrain, Cambodia, Canada, Kuwait, New Zealand, Oman, South Africa, and Switzerland, along with their respective currency codes. The revised framework (effective May 31, 2026) provides a consolidated list of enabled countries and currencies for seamless cross-border UPI payments.
• All issuer banks, PSP banks, and UPI apps are required to implement these changes while ensuring compliance with Reserve Bank of India, FEMA, and other applicable regulatory guidelines, thereby enhancing global usability of UPI for merchant payments.
