The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on April 29, 2026, notified the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts (Second Amendment) Order, 2026, further to amend the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order, 2020.
The following has been stated: -
•The Central Government issued the Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts (Second Amendment) Order, 2026 under the BIS Act, 2016.
•The order comes into effect immediately upon publication in the Official Gazette.
•It amends the 2020 Hallmarking Order by replacing the existing Annexure.
•The new Annexure provides an updated and expanded list of districts across States/UTs where hallmarking requirements apply.
•The amendment aims to strengthen consumer protection and standardisation in gold jewellery through wider hallmarking coverage.
It shall come into force on April 29, 2026.
