The Department of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprise, Assam, on April 17, 2026, notified the Assam Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution (Through Laying, Building, Operation and Expansion of Pipelines and Other Facilities) Order, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•Assam Govt issued a framework under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, to streamline pipeline laying for natural gas and petroleum products.
•Aim is to boost PNG usage and reduce dependence on LPG by removing infrastructure bottlenecks.
•Applies to all authorized/public entities involved in pipeline construction, operation, or expansion.
•Introduces time-bound permissions with “deemed approval” if authorities delay decisions and restricts extra charges beyond prescribed fees.
•Ensures quick last-mile connectivity (within 48 hours) and mandates restoration of public areas after pipeline work.
It shall come into force from April 17, 2026.
