The Government of Maharashtra, on April 30, 2026, issued clarification regarding Registration of Establishments under OSH Code 2020 & Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017.
The following has been stated:-
•The government clarified that establishments were seeking guidance on registration requirements after the introduction of the OSH Code, 2020.
•It states that establishments with 10 or more employees need to register under the OSH Code, which provides a unified framework for compliance.
•Once registered under the Code, separate registration under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act, 2017 is not required.
•However, provisions of the state Act must still be followed where they do not conflict with the central law.
•Establishments with less than 10 employees must only intimate the commencement of business under the state Act.
