Industry Specific ComplianceThe Government of Karnataka (GoK), on April 29, 2026, issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Karnataka Excise (Brewery) Rules, 1967 under section 71 of the Karnataka Excise Act, 1965. The draft has been published for public consultation, inviting objections and suggestions from stakeholders within seven days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette.

The proposed amendment seeks to substitute Rule 7-B relating to the attendance of excise officers in breweries. As per the revised provision, brewery licensees will be permitted to bottle and dispatch their products on a 24-hour basis. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Excise will be responsible for ensuring adequate excise staff arrangements to supervise such round-the-clock operations.

Stakeholders may submit their objections or suggestions to the Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Karnataka, within the stipulated timeline. The final rules will come into force upon their publication in the Official Gazette after due consideration of feedback received.
