Industry Specific ComplianceThe University Grants Commission (UGC), on April 29, 2026, issued a public notice announcing the introduction of “Statistics” as a new subject in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET). The decision was taken in the 597th Commission meeting held on April 18, 2026, based on recommendations of an expert committee.

The UGC-NET, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) twice a year (June and December), will include “Statistics” as an additional subject starting from the June 2026 cycle. This expands the list of subjects available for candidates aspiring for eligibility for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF).

The syllabus for the newly introduced “Statistics” subject has been made available on the official UGC-NET website. This move is aimed at broadening academic opportunities and aligning the examination framework with evolving academic and research disciplines.
