The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on April 30, 2026, released data on lending and deposit rates of Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), highlighting trends for March 2026 based on reported figures (excluding regional rural banks and small finance banks).
On the lending side, the weighted average lending rate (WALR) on fresh rupee loans declined slightly to 8.40% in March 2026 from 8.44% in February 2026, while the WALR on outstanding loans marginally eased to 8.99%. However, the 1-year median Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate (MCLR) increased to 8.55% in April 2026 from 8.40% in March 2026, indicating some upward pressure. Sector-wise lending rates showed mixed movement.
On the deposit side, the weighted average domestic term deposit rate (WADTDR) on fresh deposits rose to 6.07% in March 2026 from 5.65% in February 2026, while the rate on outstanding deposits remained unchanged at 6.62%.
