The Government of Meghalaya on April 29, 2026, notified regarding the Night Curfew Imposed Along Indo–Bangladesh Border in East Khasi Hills District
The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, Smti. R.M. Kurbah, has imposed a night curfew under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita due to credible reports from Border Security Force and local authorities regarding potential cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and activities by militant or anti-national elements along the Indo–Bangladesh border.
The curfew will be enforced daily from 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM within 200 meters of the international border (Zero Line). It prohibits movement of individuals attempting illegal border crossing, unlawful assembly of five or more persons, carrying of weapons or objects that can be used as weapons, and involvement in illegal activities such as smuggling of goods including cattle and other contraband.
The order has been issued with immediate effect on April 29, 2026, and will remain in force for six months. It has been enacted on an urgent basis to prevent potential threats to peace, security, and public order in the region.
