The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) on May 05, 2026, notified regarding the adoption of the CPCB Framework for Classification of Industrial Process Materials as Waste or By-products.
The following has been stated:
• The Central Pollution Control Board framework on identifying materials generated from industrial processes as waste or by-products (issued under the Environment Protection Act 1986) has been formally adopted by the State Board. All regional and group-level officials are directed to ensure that any material claimed as a “by-product” is assessed strictly as per CPCB’s prescribed criteria.
• Applications for such classification shall be submitted by industries through the standard Common Application Form specified by CPCB. These applications are to be routed through regional offices to the Hazardous Waste Cell, which will further place them before the Technical Expert Committee (TEC) for evaluation and final classification.
• Additionally, during routine inspections, field teams must verify if any industrial materials are being used as by-products and refer such cases to the Hazardous Waste Cell for TEC review.
