The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on May 06, 2026, notified of the implementation of the process for prior approval and risk assessment through the single-window system (ePAAS).
The following has been stated:
• It has introduced a Single Window System through the electronic Product and Claim Approval Application System (ePAAS) to ensure transparency, uniformity, and efficiency in risk assessment and approval processes. Effective June 1, 2026, all applications related to prior approval, authorization, claims, and risk assessment must be submitted exclusively through the ePAAS portal. Manual, offline, or email-based submissions will no longer be accepted.
• The portal will cover applications for Non-Specified Food and Food Ingredients (NSF&FI), r-PET authorization, product claims approval, Ayurveda Aahara, Foods for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP), Vegan Endorsement, notifications for vitamin/mineral/amino acid derivatives, and any other food, process, or system requiring prior approval under the FSS Act, 2006.
• The order also lists several regulatory provisions under various FSS regulations where prior approval is mandatory, including approvals for non-specified foods, nutraceuticals, novel ingredients, health claims, chemically synthesized nutraceutical ingredients, infant nutrition products, caffeinated beverages, botanical ingredients, and higher RDA products.
