The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on April 21, 2026, issued extension of time for Inviting feedback/comments of stakeholders on the Draft amendments to Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has released draft amendments to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 for public consultation, initially published on March 30, 2026. The timeline for submission of feedback was earlier extended to April 29, 2026, reflecting the Ministry’s intent to gather comprehensive stakeholder inputs.
In addition to the previously proposed amendments, further changes have been introduced, particularly in Rule 3(3)(a)(ii). This new provision mandates that any synthetically generated content must carry a continuous and clearly visible label throughout its visual display, enhancing transparency and user awareness regarding artificial or manipulated media.
To ensure adequate stakeholder participation, the Ministry has decided to place these additional amendments in the public domain along with the earlier draft. A consolidated version of the updated draft rules has been made available on the official website for detailed review.
Stakeholders are invited to submit their rule-wise feedback via email in MS Word or PDF format by May 07, 2026. The Ministry has assured that all submissions will be treated confidentially in a fiduciary capacity, encouraging open and uninhibited participation in the consultation process.
