The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), on April 23, 2026, issued an Office Memorandum extending the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS-2) beyond March 31, 2026, to ensure continuity of apprenticeship training support. The extension has been granted pending appraisal and approval of schemes under the 16th Finance Commission cycle.
The memorandum states that NAPS-2 will continue up to September 30, 2026, or until approval of the proposed PM-NAPS 3.0, whichever is earlier. During this interim period, the scheme will operate with the same scope, structure, coverage, and cost norms as applicable during the 15th Finance Commission period, ensuring no disruption in benefits to apprentices and stakeholders.
The continuation is subject to conditions including adherence to existing guidelines, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) protocols, and financial limits within approved budget allocations. Further instructions will be issued after approval of the revamped Skill India Programme framework.
