The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on March 18, 2026, issued the Guidelines for Imposition of Environmental Compensation (EC) under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023.
The following has been stated:
• CPCB, pursuant to the mandate under Rule 39 of the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023, has finalized guidelines for the imposition and collection of Environmental Compensation (EC) for violations of the said rules.
• The draft guidelines were prepared after consultations with stakeholders and were placed on the CPCB website for public comments. The draft and stakeholder feedback were subsequently reviewed during the 4th and 5th meetings of the Steering Committee held on September 16, 2025, and November 20, 2025. Based on the Committee’s recommendations, the final guidelines have now been issued for implementation and necessary action by concerned entities and authorities.
