Industry Specific ComplianceThe Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission, on April 30, 2026, notified the Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (Grid Interactive Distributed Renewable Energy Sources) (2 of 2026) Regulations, 2026 to align the State’s distributed renewable energy framework with updated national model regulations and evolving renewable energy practices.

The regulations replace and update the earlier rooftop solar net metering framework introduced in 2015 and subsequently amended in 2025. The new framework incorporates provisions relating to gross metering, group net metering, virtual net metering and broader grid-interactive distributed renewable energy systems, in line with the Forum of Regulators (FOR) Model Regulations issued in February 2026.

The Commission finalized the regulations after stakeholder consultations, public notices and hearings involving entities such as Meghalaya Power Transmission Corporation Limited, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited and Meghalaya New & Renewable Energy Development Agency. The regulations are intended to promote distributed renewable energy adoption and support renewable purchase obligations within the State.
