EHS ComplianceThe Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) on May 13, 2026, notified regarding the Implementation and Compliance of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.

The following has been stated:

• A public notice has been issued regarding the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, effective from April 1, 2026. The rules require all individuals and institutions to segregate waste into four categories — wet waste, dry waste, sanitary waste, and special care waste.

• Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) shall establish wet waste processing facilities or obtain EBWGR certification if unable to do so. The rules also promote increased use of Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) by industries, introduce centralized online monitoring, and provide for strict penalties for violations.

• The regulations apply to households, BWGs, local authorities, waste processing facilities, recycling units, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), and waste-to-energy plants.

• All concerned entities are required to register on the CPCB EPR portal and ensure compliance, failing which legal action may be taken under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
