The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX), on May 20, 2026, issued a circular announcing the launch of futures contracts for Mumbai Rainfall under the trading symbol “RAINMUMBAI”. The contracts, approved by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), shall be available for trading from May 29, 2026.
The Exchange has launched Mumbai Rainfall futures contracts expiring in June 2026, July 2026, August 2026 and September 2026, with subsequent expiries to be introduced in accordance with the contract launch calendar. The contracts shall be governed by the Exchange’s Bye-laws, Rules, Regulations and Product Note notified on the NCDEX website. Members and participants have been advised to familiarize themselves with the product specifications, trading mechanism and associated processes.
NCDEX further clarified that Concentration Margin provisions shall apply to the Mumbai Rainfall contracts. The Open Interest threshold level for the “RAINMUMBAI” contracts has been prescribed at 37,200 mm for the purpose of levy of concentration margin, effective from the commencement of trading on May 29, 2026. Applicable margin slabs and percentages shall remain aligned with the Exchange’s existing Master Circular on Risk Management.
