The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on April 21, 2026, notified regarding the Key Decisions Taken at the Sixth Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
The following has been stated:
• The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has issued an Office Memorandum regarding important decisions adopted during the Sixth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-6) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury.
• The notification highlights global measures aimed at reducing mercury pollution and strengthening environmentally sound management of mercury and mercury-added products. Key decisions relate to phased regulation and control of mercury use, emissions, waste management, trade monitoring, technical guidelines, and financial and technical assistance for implementation by member countries.
• The memorandum also emphasizes obligations of participating countries regarding reporting, compliance, mercury waste handling, and adoption of safer alternatives to mercury-containing products and industrial processes.
