The Government of Jharkhand on May 25, 2026, issued notification on Variable Dearness Allowance and Revised Minimum Wages under Code on Wages, 2019.
The Government of Jharkhand, in exercise of powers under Section 6 of the Code on Wages, 2019, has declared the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) based on the average All-India Consumer Price Index for various categories of employees across different districts/areas of the state. The VDA forms part of minimum wages and is linked to fluctuations in the price index, ensuring periodic adjustment in wages. It is clarified that the VDA rates for the period January 2023 to June 2023 remain unchanged.
The revised basic minimum wages, as recommended by the Jharkhand Minimum Wages Advisory Council, have been made effective from March 11, 2024. The VDA will increase or decrease in accordance with changes in the Consumer Price Index; however, it will not be reduced below the level at which it was fixed, even if the index declines.
Further, VDA for the period July 2025 to December 2025 will be payable from April 01, 2026. These revised wage rates, along with applicable VDA, are mandatory for all establishments in the state.
