EHS ComplianceThe Home (Fire & Emergency Services) Department, Govt. of Tripura on April 20, 2026, issued the Tripura Fire Safety Rules, 2026.

This shall come into effect from April 20, 2026.

The following has been stated:

• The rules establish a comprehensive framework for fire prevention, life safety, fire protection, and regulation of Fire Safety Certificates (Fire NOCs) for buildings and premises in the State. The Rules classify buildings into residential, educational, institutional, assembly, business, mercantile, industrial, storage, hazardous, and mixed-use categories, with fire safety requirements linked to the level of risk.

• They introduce a streamlined system for issuance and renewal of Fire NOCs through self-certification and certificates from empanelled agencies. Building owners and occupiers are required to obtain a Fire NOC before occupancy and seek renewal before its expiry.

• The Rules also prohibit artificial subdivision of buildings to avoid stricter safety norms and mandate reassessment of fire risk whenever there is a change in occupancy or structural modifications.

• Key provisions include enhanced standards for fire-resistant construction, compartmentation, service shafts, electrical installations, emergency power supply, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control measures, Fire Command Centres, firefighting shafts, refuge areas, emergency lighting, exit signage, and firefighting installations such as fire pumps, sprinklers, and water storage systems.

• High-rise buildings under construction must maintain specified temporary firefighting arrangements.
