The Board of Practical Training Eastern Region (BOPTER) has outlined the end-to-end process for implementing the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree/Diploma Programme (AEDP) in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Under the framework, HEIs are required to identify suitable degree or diploma programmes, design industry-aligned curricula, integrate apprenticeship components of at least six months, and enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BOPTER before commencing the programme.
The guidelines require HEIs and students to register on the NATS 2.0 Portal, establish industry partnerships, and facilitate student placement in apprenticeship opportunities through formal agreements. A tripartite agreement among the student, HEI, and industry establishment must be executed within seven days of commencement of apprenticeship training. The apprenticeship component should form an integral part of the academic programme, with duration varying according to the course structure and ensuring the final semester is dedicated to practical industry exposure.
The framework further provides for joint monitoring and assessment by HEIs and industry partners during on-the-job training. Upon successful completion of at least six months of apprenticeship and assessment requirements, students will be awarded a Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) by the Government of India. HEIs are also expected to undertake post-programme tracking of student outcomes and collect stakeholder feedback for continuous improvement of the programme.
