Labour ComplianceThe Department of Labour, Employment and Training, Lakshadweep, on March 27, 2026, issued the Draft Code on Wages (Lakshadweep) Rules, 2025.

The following has been stated:-

•The draft rules outline the procedural and administrative frameworks necessary to enforce the Central Government's Code on Wages, 2019. 

•It establishes criteria for calculating daily minimum wages based on standard working-class family consumption needs, including caloric intake, clothing, housing, and education. 

•It mandates the creation of a technical committee to categorize occupational skills into unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled brackets. 

•Furthermore, it defines a standard working day as eight hours, provides regulations for mandatory weekly rest days, and sets rules for night shifts. 

•It details procedures for lawful wage deductions, payment of bonuses, and the resolution of undisbursed dues or claims through designated local authorities. 

•Lastly, the draft introduces a formalized framework for labor inspection schemes, appointing Inspector-cum-Facilitators to monitor compliance, maintain registries, and administer penalties for violations.
