The State Pollution Control Board, Sikkim on May 18, 2026, issued Direction for Retro- fitting of Emission Control Device (RECD) in old Generator set for consideration of application for renewal of Consent to Operate.
In line with directions from the National Green Tribunal and under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), stricter measures have been introduced in Sikkim to control air pollution caused by generator sets. Given the state’s ecological sensitivity, special emphasis is placed on maintaining air quality.
All entities operating generator sets of 15 KVA and above must comply with the following:
Generator sets older than 15 years must be retrofitted with emission control devices (as per CPCB guidelines) and obtain renewal of Consent to Operate (CTO).
Operation of generator sets exceeding 15 years without valid CTO must be stopped immediately.
Retrofitted Emission Control Devices (RECDs) must be certified by CPCB-approved agencies such as ARAI, ICAT, IIP, or VRDE.
These directions aim to reduce emissions from old generator sets and strengthen regulatory compliance to protect ambient air quality.
