Industry Specific ComplianceThe Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on June 15, 2026, issued the Draft Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (Karnataka Electricity Distribution Code) (First Amendment), 2026.

The following has been stated:-

•The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission has amended various provisions of the Karnataka Electricity Distribution Code to align distribution planning, safety, quality assurance, and maintenance requirements with the latest Central Electricity Authority (CEA) regulations and guidelines. 

•The amendments update references to statutory standards, strengthen provisions relating to distribution transformer design, procurement, operation, and maintenance, and require compliance with revised quality and safety standards, including ISO 45001. 

•The changes also revise quality assurance procedures by limiting pre-dispatch inspections to power transformers and mandating random sampling and testing of materials/equipment at NABL-accredited laboratories. 

•Utilities are empowered to determine sample sizes based on risk assessment and applicable CEA guidelines.

The comments/views/suggestions/objections, if any, may be submitted by June 24, 2026.
