Odisha Government extends timeline for transition from Furnace Oil to cleaner fuels

Industry Specific ComplianceThe Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, Government of Odisha, on June 17, 2026, issued a notification amending the State's Fuel Policy and modifying earlier notifications relating to the use of Furnace Oil by industries in the State.

The following has been stated:

The State Government has extended the timeline for existing industries to switch from Furnace Oil (FO) to cleaner fuels with low sulphur content, such as Low Sulphur Heavy Stock (LSHS), Light Diesel Oil (LDO), or gas, up to December 31, 2027.

Industries that have already committed to transitioning to cleaner fuels before this deadline are required to adhere to their respective committed timelines. Further, no new industries will be permitted to use Furnace Oil in the State of Odisha. The amendment has been issued as part of the State's ongoing efforts to promote cleaner fuel usage and reduce environmental pollution.
