The Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region (CAQM), on June 12, 2026, issued an order regarding the extension of relaxation in the Standard List of Approved Fuels stipulated under Direction No. 65 dated June 23, 2022, as amended.
The following has been stated: -
• Due to the continuing disruption in natural gas supplies arising from global energy supply challenges and geopolitical developments in the Middle East, industries, hotels, restaurants, and other enterprises in the NCR have been permitted to continue using alternate fuels such as High Speed Diesel (HSD), Biomass, and RDF pellets in place of natural gas. In cases of limited availability of these alternative fuels, the temporary use of coal and kerosene is also permitted.
• The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has informed that the disruption in natural gas supply, which commenced in early March 2026, continues to persist and has recommended extension of the relaxation until normal gas supply is restored. The Central Pollution Control Board has also extended its advisory, permitting the temporary use of alternate fuels until August 12, 2026.
• In view of the above, the Commission has further extended the relaxation granted under its earlier order for a period of two months, i.e., until August 13, 2026, or until normalcy in gas supplies is restored, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
