The Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC) on June 18, 2026, issued notification on Proposed Generic Tariff on levelized basis for Small Hydro Projects of 5MW to 25MW for the Second Year of the Control Period i.e., FY 2026-27.
The Meghalaya State Electricity Regulatory Commission (MSERC), through its order dated June 18, 2026, has initiated suo moto proceedings for determining the generic tariff for Small Hydro Projects (SHPs) with capacities ranging from 5 MW to 25 MW. This action is taken under the powers conferred by the Conduct of Business Regulations, 2006 and the Renewable Energy (RE) Tariff Regulations, 2025, in the interest of promoting upcoming hydro projects in the state.
The Commission observed a growing potential for development of such SHPs and noted that although the RE Tariff Regulations were notified in December 2025 (and later amended in June 2026), tariff determination for the first year of the control period was not undertaken due to time constraints. Accordingly, the Commission has now proceeded to determine the tariff for the second year of the control period, i.e., FY 2026–27.
As per the RE Tariff Regulations, the Commission is required to determine generic tariffs annually for specified renewable energy projects, including small hydro projects. The tariff is to be determined on a levelized basis and will apply to projects commissioned during the relevant year for the entire tariff period.
Through this order, the Commission has proposed the generic tariff for SHPs (5–25 MW) and invited comments, suggestions, and objections from stakeholders on the proposal before finalization.
