EHS ComplianceThe Assam State Pollution Control Board (APCB) on June 16, 2026, issued a public notice to all Brick Kiln Owners/Operators in the State of Assam.

The following has been stated:

• Pursuant to the amendments to the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, all existing brick kilns in Assam that have not converted to Zig-Zag Technology or Vertical Shaft Technology, or adopted Piped Natural Gas (PNG) as fuel, must cease operations from July 1, 2026. 

• Brick kiln owners are required to use only approved fuels (PNG, coal, firewood, or agricultural residues), obtain a modified Consent to Operate (CTO) after conversion, and comply with all prescribed emission, siting, and monitoring standards. Existing units converting to Zig-Zag technology are exempt from the Consent to Establish (CTE) fee for such conversion. 

• Further, new brick kilns will receive CTE only if established using Zig-Zag Technology, Vertical Shaft Technology, or PNG as fuel. Non-compliant units will face cancellation of CTO and closure of operations without further notice.
