The Government of Kerala, on June 04, 2026, issued a circular regarding Guidelines on Waste Removal during Monsoon.
The following has been stated:-
•This circular, issued by the Local Self Government Department of the Kerala Government, highlights the urgent need for the time-bound removal of inorganic waste across the state due to monsoon and potential flood risks.
•Local bodies are directed to take immediate action to clear waste stored in centers like MCFs and RRFs, especially in flood-prone areas, to prevent the material from getting wet and degrading in value.
•Allowing the waste to mix with rainwater not only causes a significant financial burden on local bodies but also triggers severe public health hazards and environmental issues.
•Furthermore, authorities must urgently ensure smooth road access for waste transportation vehicles to these disposal and collection facilities.
•Finally, Joint Directors are instructed to collect data on storage systems in flood-affected regions, report them to District Collector review meetings, and coordinate with District Disaster Management Authorities to complete these tasks by March 31 in future years
