The Government of Chandigarh on July 07, 2026, issued the Draft Chandigarh Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Rules, 2026.
The Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has proposed draft rules under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, using powers conferred by Sections 133 and 135. These draft rules aim to consolidate and modernize existing labour regulations in the region.
The proposed rules will replace multiple existing laws currently applicable to Chandigarh, including the Punjab Factory Rules, 1952; Chandigarh Contract Labour Rules, 1974; Inter-State Migrant Workmen Rules, 1983; Building and Construction Workers Rules, 2009; and other related regulations. However, actions taken under the previous rules will remain valid.
The draft has been published for public information as required under the Code, inviting stakeholders and affected persons to review the proposed provisions.
Objections and suggestions, if any, may be submitted in writing or via email to the Labour Commissioner, UT Chandigarh, within 45 days from the date of publication. The draft rules will be considered after this consultation period.
