Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on July 03, 2026, notified regarding the enhancement of the transaction limit for On-Device Biometric Authentication in UPI.

The following has been stated:

• The NPCI has enhanced the per-transaction limit for UPI payments authenticated through On-Device Biometric Authentication (such as fingerprint and face authentication) from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, effective August 7, 2026. The enhancement builds upon the biometric authentication facility introduced as an alternative to the UPI PIN under NPCI's circular dated October 7, 2025, in view of its increasing adoption across the ecosystem.

• Issuer Banks, PSP Banks, and UPI applications have been directed to adequately communicate the revised transaction limit to customers. All existing validation checks, compliance requirements, technical specifications, and applicable regulatory guidelines will continue to remain in force, and participants shall ensure full compliance.
