The Government of Jammu and Kashmir on June 19, 2026, issued the Draft Code on Social Security (Jammu and Kashmir) Rules, 2026.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government has issued draft rules under the Code on Social Security, 2020, exercising powers under sections 154 and 156 read with the General Clauses Act, 1897. These draft rules seek to replace and supersede existing rules related to workmen’s compensation, gratuity, maternity benefits, building and construction workers, and unorganised workers’ social security.
The new rules are proposed following the repeal of earlier laws under section 164 of the Code, while safeguarding actions already taken under the previous framework.
The draft has been published for public information, and stakeholders are invited to submit objections or suggestions within 45 days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. Feedback may be sent to the Labour and Employment Department, Jammu and Kashmir.
