The Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) on July 15, 2026, has issued operational guidelines requiring Depository Participants (DPs) to capture the DARPAN Registration ID for clients classified as Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs). This directive is in line with SEBI’s circular dated June 06, 2024 and earlier CDSL communication dated June 19, 2024, focusing on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) compliance under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
As per the guidelines, all registered intermediaries must ensure that NPO clients are registered on the NITI Aayog DARPAN portal and their DARPAN ID is recorded. Depository Participants are also required to maintain these records for a period of five years after the closure of the respective demat account.
The requirement to capture DARPAN ID is mandatory for all new demat accounts opened under specified NPO status and sub-status categories. For existing accounts, the DARPAN ID must be captured at the time of account modification. Necessary file format changes have been incorporated in UDIFF catalogue version 3.0.1.2, and DPs are advised to update their back-office systems accordingly. The implementation of this functionality is scheduled to go live on August 07, 2026.
