The Government of Chhattisgarh, on July 20, 2026, has issued the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) (Amendment) Act, 2025 to further amend the Chhattisgarh Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 2017.
The following has been stated:
The Act increases the threshold for applicability from establishments employing 10 or more workers to 20 or more workers, permits women to work between 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM subject to conditions notified by the State Government, and revises the daily working hours from 9 to 10 hours, the overtime limit from 5 to 6 hours, and the maximum spread-over from 10.5 to 12 hours.
It also omits provisions relating to extended spread-over for intermittent or urgent work and increases the annual overtime limit from 125 hours to 144 hours, providing greater operational flexibility while updating labour regulations.
