The Government of West Bengal on July 13, 2026, has issued draft West Bengal Code on Social Security Rules, 2026 under the powers conferred by Sections 154 and 156 of the Code on Social Security, 2020. The draft has been published for public information in accordance with Section 158 of the Code, inviting feedback from stakeholders likely to be affected.
The government has provided a period of 45 days from the date of publication for submission of objections and suggestions. Stakeholders may submit their inputs to the Labour Department via email in a prescribed format, detailing the rule proposed for modification along with reasons. All responses received within the stipulated period will be duly considered before finalization.
The draft rules, once notified, will apply across the entire State of West Bengal and will come into force on a date to be specified by the State Government. These rules aim to operationalize provisions of the Social Security Code at the state level.
