The Government of Chhattisgarh on May 05, 2026, issued the Chhattisgarh City Gas Distribution Policy, 2026.
The following has been stated:
• The Government has notified the Policy intending to accelerate the development of a comprehensive natural gas distribution network across the State. The policy seeks to facilitate the expansion of City Gas Distribution (CGD) infrastructure for supplying Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to the transport sector, thereby promoting the use of clean and environmentally friendly fuels.
• It aims to create an enabling policy framework for CGD entities by providing institutional support, streamlined approvals and coordination among various State Government departments for the timely implementation of gas distribution projects.
• The policy also focuses on attracting private investment in gas infrastructure, strengthening energy security, improving fuel accessibility, supporting industrial growth, reducing dependence on conventional fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions and urban air pollution.
• Through the expansion of PNG pipelines and CNG stations, the policy is expected to enhance the quality of life of citizens, provide industries with a reliable and cost-effective fuel source, encourage sustainable urban development, generate employment opportunities and contribute to the State's economic growth while aligning with India's clean energy and environmental sustainability objectives.
