The National Dental Commission (NDC) on July 28, 2026, has raised concerns over instances of fraudulent biometric attendance practices in some dental colleges. It has been observed that attendance is being falsely marked by displaying photos or videos of faculty members on mobile devices in front of biometric systems, which constitutes manipulation of official records and may also violate provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
In response, the NDC has initiated a digital audit of the Online Faculty and Student Attendance Monitoring System (OFSAMS) across dental institutions nationwide. The purpose is to detect any tampering or falsification of attendance data and ensure the integrity of the monitoring system.
The Commission has warned that strict action will be taken against institutions or individuals found guilty. Penalties under the National Dental Commission Act, 2023 may include stoppage of admissions, cancellation of registration, blacklisting of faculty for six months, or monetary penalties under relevant provisions.
All dental colleges have been strongly advised to ensure strict compliance with biometric attendance systems and avoid any such malpractice, reinforcing accountability and transparency in academic administration.
