The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), Government of Rajasthan, on July 29, 2026, notified the Rajasthan Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Amendment) Rules, 2026, amending the Rajasthan Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2011 under Section 53 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The amendments were finalized after considering public objections and suggestions received on the draft rules published on June 20, 2026, and came into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.
The amendments introduce the definitions of "Government Approved Test Centre" and "Self Declaration", and replace the existing licensing framework for manufacturers, repairers, and dealers of weights and measures with a registration-based system. Applications are now required to be submitted online, and registration certificates will be issued on the basis of self-declaration without prior inspection. Existing licences issued under the Rules are deemed to be registration certificates, and all registration certificates will remain valid unless suspended, cancelled, or surrendered.
The amended Rules also provide that alteration of a registration certificate will attract a fee equal to half of the prescribed registration fee, require registered repairers to furnish the prescribed security deposit, mandate the display of the registration certificate at the business premises, and substitute references to "licence" with "registration certificate" throughout the relevant provisions. The amendments are intended to simplify regulatory compliance, promote ease of doing business, and streamline the registration process for legal metrology stakeholders in Rajasthan.
