The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on July 30, 2026, issued an advisory for encouraging the adoption of improved tower configurations and advanced conductor technologies for installation of transmission lines in forest areas, thereby reducing the requirement of forest areas as RoW.
The following has been stated: -
•CEA has advised stakeholders to adopt revised Right of Way (RoW) requirements notified under the CEA (Technical Standards for Construction of Electrical Plants and Electric Lines) Amendment Regulations, 2025.
•The revised norms promote technologies such as HTLS conductors and monopole towers to reduce RoW requirements for transmission lines.
•MoEFCC, through its guidelines dated July 03, 2026, has also encouraged adoption of these configurations to minimise the use of forest land.
•All stakeholders are directed to comply with the revised RoW requirements while planning and executing applicable transmission line projects in forest areas.
