The Government of Manipur on August 04, 2026, issued the Draft Manipur Legal Metrology (Enforcement) (Second Amendment) Rules, 2026 to simplify the registration and verification process for manufacturers, repairers and dealers of weights and measures, in line with Priority Area 8 of the Compliance Reduction and Deregulation Phase-II.
The following has been stated:
The proposed framework seeks to replace licensing with registration certificates based on self-declaration, eliminating prior government inspection for registration.
The amendment proposes that applications for registration be made online, with prescribed fees paid online. Registration certificates would be perpetual, non-transferable and not require renewal, with no prior inspection. Once the required documents and fee are submitted, registration is to be granted within 14 working days, failing which it would be automatically granted.
The Rules also replace references to “licence” and “licensee” with “registration certificate” and “registrant” throughout the relevant provisions. Manufacturers, repairers and dealers would be required to maintain prescribed workshops, equipment, tools and registers and display their registration certificate prominently at their business premises.
Suggestions or objections may be submitted to the Commissioner (CAF&PD), Government of Manipur
