The Government of Nagaland on June 15, 2026, issued a notification regarding a ban on Food Products Containing Tobacco and Nicotine.
The following has been stated: -
•The Nagaland Food Safety Commissioner has issued a one-year prohibition on all food products containing tobacco or nicotine across the state.
•The ban covers the manufacture, processing, packaging, storage, transportation, distribution, and sale of such food items.
•It strictly targets products like Gutkha, Pan Masala, and any chewable, flavoured, scented, or mixed condiments containing tobacco or nicotine.
•The prohibition also applies to twin-pack or separately packaged products designed to be easily mixed together by consumers.
•This measure enforces Regulation 2.3.4 of the FSS Regulations 2011 and follows Supreme Court directives to safeguard public health.
