The NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. (NBBL) on July 16, 2026, advised all Operating Units (OUs) under the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to ensure compliance with the requirement of generating a Transaction Reference ID at the payment initiation stage for all applicable bill payment transactions.
The Transaction Reference ID must be generated at the payment initiation stage and transmitted to NBBL in accordance with the RBI Master Direction – Bharat Bill Payment System Directions, 2024. All OUs are required to implement and ensure compliance by September 15, 2026. Any deviation will be treated as regulatory non-compliance and may attract appropriate action.
