The Haryana Pollution Control Board (HPCB), requests all the Health Care Facilities (HCFs) and Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facilities (CBWTFs) to follow the specific procedure/guidelines regarding handling, collection, transportation and disposal of biomedical waste generated from COVID-19 affected persons as under:
Do’s:
• Separate color coded bins / bags / containers should be kept in wards and maintain proper segregation of waste as per Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines.
• Double layered bags (2 bags) should be used for collection of waste and Bags / containers, Dedicated trolleys and collection bins should be labeled as ‘COVID-19 Waste’. Further, Bins / containers should be disinfected with 1% sodium hypochlorite solution daily.
• Separate record of waste generated from COVID-19 shall be maintained.
• Opening or operation of COVID-19 wards and COVID-19 ICU shall be reported to State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) and respective CBWTF located in the area. Further, biomedical waste as and when it gets generated should be collected by CBWTF. CBWTF shall provide adequate Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) to their workers.
• Dedicated vehicle, with separate label, should be used to collect COVID-19 ward waste and such Vehicles should be sanitized with sodium hypochlorite or any appropriate chemical disinfectant after every tri
