The Tamil Nadu Labour and Employment Department issues the draft amendment to the Factories Act, 1948 and Tamil Nadu Factories Rules, 1950.
The following amendments are as under:
• Under Rule 40 which specifies that latrine accommodation shall be provided in every factory, certain clauses have been inserted, namely:
a) Clause (c): Sanitary Napkins of adequate quantity conforming to relevant Indian Standards formulated by Bureau of Indian Standards shall be provided and maintained in the women’s toilets for their use, and the same shall be replenished on daily basis.
b) Clause (d): Disposable bins with lids shall be provided within the women’s toilets for the collection of the used sanitary napkins. The used sanitary napkins shall be disposed off in a safe, hygienic and eco-friendly process by using suitable electrical incinerator”;
• Rule 61-O has been substituted according to which personal equipment shall be provided to the workers by the employers according to the Bureau of Indian standards. All the workers working in the hazardous factories shall be provided with a safety helmet and a safety footwear. Along with that the workers shall wear protective wear on their eye as well. Other protective equipment shall be provided as well such as life vests, safety harness etc.
• Rule 61-N which specifies the Quality of personal protective equipment shall be omitted.
Notice is hereby given that any objection or suggestion, which may be received from any person with respect thereto, on or before April 19, 2020, will be considered by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
