Finance & Taxation ComplianceThe Maharashtra Finance Department on July 08, 2020, publishes the Maharashtra Value Added Tax (Second Amendment) Rules, 2020, to further amend Maharashtra Value Added Tax Rules, 2005.

The followings are the amendments made in the Maharashtra Value Added Tax Rules, 2005:

• A new proviso has been inserted in Rule 17(4B)(a) which specifies the filing of returns, “Provided that, for the year 2019-20 annual return shall be filed on or before July 21, 2020”.

• A new proviso has been inserted in Rule 17(4B)(b) namely, “Provided that, for the year 2019-20, the dealer whose tax liability in the previous year does not exceed rupees one lakh, shall file quarterly return on or before July 21, 2020 for the quarter ended on March 31, 2020”.

• A new proviso has been inserted in Rule 17(4B)(c) namely, “Provided that, the dealer whose tax liability in the financial year 2019-20 is not more than rupees one lakh, such dealer shall file monthly return for the month of March 2020, on or before July 21, 2020”.

•A new sub-rule has been inserted in Rule 17(4C) which specifies the filing of returns has been inserted, namely, “Subject to the rule 18 the dealer who is liable to file monthly return, but having tax liability of rupees ten thousand or below in the month of April 2020 and May 2020, then such dealer, shall file monthly return on or before July 21, 2020 for the months of April 2020 and May 2020”.
